How long have you been our Director of Operations? 1 year, 6 months according to LinkedIn. When did you start working with Enplug? I joined Enplug on October 21st, 2013. This is also the last calendar date I point to. Everything in between feels like both a few months and a few years. #enplugtimewarp If you could go back and start Enplug Operations from the beginning, what would you change? Set and measure key performance indicators from Day 0. Can you give us a sneak-peek of what’s next on the Ops horizon? Yep! We’re pushing for a better understanding of our customers’ journey and all of their possible touchpoints. By anticipating and addressing every imaginable problem and question, we’ll create a more effortless experience. What was it like moving into the Enplug house? I arrived on a Sunday afternoon. I remember Alex inviting me to join him on a “light” run. It was an appropriate initiation for the road ahead. The house was still our office at this point, so it was a crowded and hectic time. I slept on the floor for the first couple of months. Started from the bottom and now I have my own room. Enplug Spotlight: Martin Do you have a favorite moment with the team? Early January 2015. Coming back to the office after the holidays and extended time away for the renovations. The energy was incredible. 2015 has been a big year for us, we are really clicking now. That first Monday was a cool moment. What app do you find yourself using most? Spotify. For obvious reasons. What’s the best part of living in your home state of Arizona? Peggy Hill of the King of the Hill once said, “[Phoenix] should not exist, it is a monument to man’s arrogance.” She’s right, it’s hot. Reeeally hot. But I’ll look back at my time in the Phoenix heat with full appreciation when my future self is helping to terraform Mars. Until then… What’s the best part of living in L.A.? The weather – it’s near perfect. Your background is in Mechanical Engineering. How does that relate to what you do with Enplug? Problem solving and systems thinking can be applied to any challenge. Just a matter of extrapolating lessons from the beautiful language of mathematics and applying them appropriately. Slack, email, or text? Email. Most beautiful country you’ve visited? This is tough. I’d have to say Nicaragua. Most beautiful places you’ve visited? Ha long Bay in Vietnam, Uluwatu Temple in Indonesia, and Marina Bay in Singapore. Where is your next travel goal? In episode 8 of Cosmos, Neil deGrasse Tyson says you can get one of the best views of the Milky Way from the Australian Outback. G’day mate!
